A fluid intervention in defining a clear entry and boat-way with playful and tactile elements to facilitate movement and growth.
You’re dehydrated. The streets are packed, you have nearly been run over by gas guzzling motorbikes. The smoky crowd is bubbling around you as you wander the sun bleached streets.
A long, thin, masonry fin directs the flow of the crowd, leading you to ‘The Quench’, the oasis you have been searching for. The brick walls, almost ribbon like, seem to bank the crowd as they move you closer to the central culvert, as if the crowd were trickling water.
Soon you are in line, anxious to enter, standing alongside a lazy canal lined with lush vegetation, it winds through the entire colosseum. You see people boarding shallow boats and gently moving down the canal, through an arch. You follow, wobbling as you balance on your own boat. The attendant lets go and you are moving through the ancient stone archways of the colosseum.
A whirlpool of people is what comes to mind as you enter the inner ring peering across and seeing other floating boats and people. The water seems to spiral down and drain out at the base.
