The Music Academy
The Music Academy complex is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to fostering the growth of musicians, scholars, and enthusiasts. This compound provides spaces not only for practice and performance but also for research, relaxation, and residence for the students. Situated in Heraklion, Crete, the project site presents itself adjacent to the coastline, intricately woven within a dense urban tapestry.
The architectural strategy has been tailored to echo this vernacular, positioning structures to lead the way down to the sea, encouraging visitors to pass through the site. Also, there is an attempt to integrate into the existing fabric by evoking a familiar sense of neighborhood cohesion, by creating plazas for people to sit.
the concept
The architectural strategy was to create clear visual paths and meeting points close to the sea. This way, the academy would be integrated into the urban fabric. This area will not only cater to the needs of the students but will also attract visitors, encouraging them to explore and enjoy the space.
At the core of this project lies the commitment to revitalize a neglected area by nurturing an area that would thrive in a cultural system. Also, we attempt to integrate the new buildings into the dense urban landscape by evoking a familiar sense of neighborhood cohesion. The plazas encourage the socialization of students and the outdoor spaces are designed to host art performances, inviting the entire community.
