In the vast skies and deserts of Saudi Arabia, The Line is a mirrored structure resembling an invisible wall, defining a future urban space-time. However, it’s not truly invisible. The Line will inevitably encounter sand dunes, villages, rivers, and ecological corridors. This 500-meter-high city should harmoniously integrate with its environment for sustainable development.
We redesigned The Line with a humble approach, dissolving rigid urban boundaries to create an interface where two parallel worlds can merge. Villages and rivers can pass through The Line, with public spaces like rail stations, commercial complexes, and green parks integrated at junctions. These spaces blend with The Line’s interior, extending urban living resources outward, reshaping the city’s linear trajectory into a broader living space.
Our redesign offers a new choice for The Line’s diversity. It allows sea breezes to flow gracefully and sunlight to spread freely. Original villages and rivers coexist harmoniously with The Line, while historical civilization and traditional culture merge with future technology and new lifestyle concepts. The newly envisioned The Line is not a mirage, but a tangible, beautiful future home.
Jury Comments
– A creative reinterpretation of coexistence that takes the overall context into account. The graphic aspect is particularly striking, immediately capturing the viewer’s attention and encouraging a deeper exploration of the conceptual underpinnings. | Mariela Mezalira
