“The Final Ascent” explores The Line, a proposed zero-carbon, nature-saving city, through a dystopian lens. Set in an ancient Arabic art style, the  image presents The Line as a beacon of survival through environmental decay. People in traditional clothing journeying toward it from a harsh landscape illustrating a forced migration to what seems like the last safe place to live.

In contrast to the futuristic advertisements, our version of The Line looks worn with a weathered appearance. This visual detail suggests a contradiction to the idealized narrative of The Line as a pristine, sustainable refuge. By placing The Line behind mountains, we further emphasize the difficulty of reaching this last place of civilization, amplifying its significance as a distant, almost mythical promise of survival.”The Final Ascent” reflects on the reliance on technology as a solution to ecological collapse, questioning if the promise of zero-carbon cities can withstand the demands of real life. By portraying The Line as a symbol of hope and survival, but one that is already starting to show its age, we explore the tension between our expectations for the future and  how futuristic solutions may eventually bear signs of wear, raising questions about the sustainability of humanity’s ambitious visions for the future.
