The project aims to revolutionize lunar habitation with the development of a lunar caravan. This concept integrates a self-sustaining machine with living quarters, providing mobility and autonomy for lunar settlement.
The main idea of the design is that moon is very different than earth in terms of natural conditions. The absence of the atmosphere made settling in one spot very dangerous. Meteors that are unable to reach the Earth’s surface posed a great danger for life on the moon because they would impact directly. Lunar days are very different than the days on earth, so design is purposely made flexible to settle in strategic locations, ensuring safety from natural disasters and maximizing solar exposure for energy resources. In those strategic places the machine will change to settlement mode, allowing inhabitants to extract regolith for oxygen generation and material use.
The design embodies a duality of function. Design consist of two distinct halves: the machine section and the habitat section. The machine section encompasses all technical and operational aspects for lunar survival. It houses energy generation systems including solar panels, a command deck, a control center and an inactive drill. The habitat section consist three different modules, a hub and a viewing terrace, in between are the communicational systems and a laboratory.
Jury Comments
– The project is both practical and visually engaging, with a form reminiscent of a transformer. It effectively integrates mobility and self-sufficiency, addressing lunar challenges comprehensively. The focus on functionality and safety is commendable. | Hanjun Kim
