The project envisions a reimagined use for gas stations in a post-apocalyptic world, where everything operates on electricity and fossil fuels are obsolete. In this dangerous world, living on the surface is no longer safe. This concept proposes a self-sustaining, closed-loop system concealed beneath a gas station.
The core idea of the design is form a safehouse under a gas station. The choice of a gas station is intentional, since fossil fuels are no longer in use, a gas station would be one of the last places people would expect to find activity. This makes it an ideal hideout, as the surface is hazardous and individuals are hunted. By using the gas station as a link to the surface, the design incorporates a closed system.
Electricity will be generated by solar panels installed on the roof of the gas station, while hydroelectric power will be harnessed from underground water sources. Clean water will be collected through rainwater harvesting, stored in the gas station’s underground oil tanks.
The design mimics nature, blending seamlessly into the existing. In a world where humanity can no longer survive on the Earth’s surface, this project imagines a functioning underground shelter that remains hidden and unnoticed.
