The Colosseum is a fragment of history, a relic chosen to survive yet enslaved to be a symbol of cultural heritage. If memory evolves like taste, must reminiscence remain tangible, or can it be bound beyond the physical?
Once left in oblivion, the Colosseum echoes the nostalgia of a lost Empire. In that process, this monument is experienced and romanticised in silence. Will its undeniable value hold if it were to physically dissolve? For the next century, the site enters a state of uncertainty and becomes a garden of historical scrutiny. Such an act brings an eternal existence to the Colosseum that shall unfold as its community surmises its perpetual afterlife. The timeline sets for this fragment frozen in time to question historical value and for its memory to translate a new experience. To be devalued, foreign structures are removed from the ruin to decay and let nature grow its course. Collective memory fades as control is given to the community to care for the site rather than observe it.
If the Colosseum is set to be (re)discovered, will it change how people interact with heritage?
