Juanchaco and Ladrilleros, communities located in Colombia’s Pacific region, is one of the rainiest areas in the world, as well as one of the few mega-diverse areas on the planet. They face several water-related problems, including limited access to potable water, water pollution, lack of water infrastructure, deforestation and construction without proper planning. These problems have reduced the soil’s capacity to absorb rainwater, resulting in increased surface runoff. BASIN VEINS is a project that focuses on the creation of parks and wetlands that have regenerative drainage systems that form various ecosystem services, the proposal takes advantage of the runoff formed by the topography of the territory, seeking to improve rainwater management thus promoting water security and conservation of local species. Among the project’s strategies are the design of water runoff channels to avoid the constant erosion of the territory, and in turn, seeks to promote local biodiversity by having endemic species of amphibians as bioindicators of proper water treatment. phytoremediation techniques are used within the channels to purify water, platforms are also designed around the channel for pedestrian passage with different energy-generating covers that also have the purpose of consolidating the aquatic landscape.
