1) Could you briefly introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Woojin Ahn from South Korea. I’m an undergraduate student pursuing my Bachelor of Architecture degree at Seoul National University.
2) What inspired you for the Market 2.0?
I was searching for a competition where I could freely explore radical architectural ideas. Market 2.0 provided a unique opportunity to consider various aspects of architecture simultaneously, such as sustainability, community, and economy, without any scale restrictions.
3) Can you describe any particular challenges you faced during the design process and how
you overcame them?
While participating in the competition, I was serving in the military, which made it challenging to find enough time to translate my design ideas into drawings. Therefore, I meticulously planned the project’s timetable from the early stages. Additionally, creating a fundamental idea from scratch posed a challenge since there were fewer restrictive conditions compared to projects I had undertaken in school.
4) How do you think your educational background or professional experiences influenced your winning design?
The educational environment where I studied architecture was highly conducive to exploring various methods of architectural inquiry. This atmosphere provided opportunities to acquire diverse skills, which I was able to leverage in the competition.
5) What advice would you give to students or young professionals looking to excel in architecture competitions?
Since competitions offer a more liberated space for exploration compared to other projects, I would encourage individuals to think freely and integrate their design ideas to the fullest extent possible.
6) What are your future aspirations in the field of architecture?
I’m still uncertain about my future aspirations in architecture. I plan to dedicate the time remaining until graduation to pondering this question deeply.
