1) Could you briefly introduce yourself?
I’m studying interior architecture and design at Kaywon University of the Arts. I’m interested in art. In this work, I thought about how to combine architecture and art.
2) What inspired you for the competition?
I was really inspired by the Nauvakia that was played in the Roman Colosseum. To play Nauvakia, you have to fill the Colosseum with water, and that’s where the idea came from.
3) Can you describe any particular challenges you faced during the design process and how
you overcame them?
We put a lot of thought into what kind of experience we could create for the people who would visit this space. Then, we found Nauvakia, and we wanted to show people today that the Colosseum was designed to be filled with water. That’s how we came up with the idea that people should be able to swim and see the inside of the Colosseum.
4) How do you think your educational background or professional experiences influenced your winning design?
It was so lovely to have a chance to chat with our teammates and get to know each other better. We came up with lots of great ideas and it was wonderful to be able to create our own space together.
5) What advice would you give to students or young professionals looking to excel in architecture competitions?
I truly believe that if we keep reminding ourselves that what we’re aiming for might not be the right answer, we’ll be able to let go of the fear of failure and be more open to different ideas.
6) What are your future aspirations in the field of architecture?
I would absolutely love to see the architecture I designed actually built!
