1) Could you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Seungho Lee and I am currently a junior at Kyeowon University of the Arts in South Korea. I am majoring in Interior Architectural Design and my dream is to become an interior designer.
2) What inspired you for the competition?
When I saw the empty pools filling up on rainy days, I thought, why not build a pool in the Colosseum? It would be incredible! When a puddle gets old and big, it becomes a pond and brings life to the space. I thought the creativity of a pond could be the link between the Colosseum and a pool.
3) Can you describe any particular challenges you faced during the design process and how
you overcame them?
The project involved a lot of trial and error, both in terms of ideas and in the process of fleshing them out. However, I remained determined and kept talking to my teammates to come up with the best ideas. I have a knack for coming up with good ideas on the spot, so I made sure to organize and refine them in a way that would make them shine.
4) How do you think your educational background or professional experiences influenced your winning design?
I’ve taken part in about 10 competitions now, and I always learn something new each time. No matter how small the experience and learning, it seems to give me the strength to overcome challenges in the future. I learned a lot of things in school, but taking part in many competitions and getting my hands dirty was more valuable.
5) What advice would you give to students or young professionals looking to excel in architecture competitions?
“Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.”
Always be confident and believe in yourself.
6) What are your future aspirations in the field of architecture?
I want to create a design group with like-minded people who create great work across genres.
