The Between Rock Shells project draws inspiration from historic rock formations in the NEOM region. The project features a design that resembles a crystal within a shell, symbolizing the contrast between history and the future. Design features two shell towers with overlapping layers of rocks that minimize the effects of extreme weather. The towers, designed to mimic carved rocks, provide shade and protection from summer heat while allowing winter sunlight to enter. The north tower leans over the south tower, optimizing sun exposure with inclined terraces. Kinetic rotating brick blocks create a rocky appearance and dynamic environmental control, adapting to changing weather conditions by creating shade or protection from sandstorms. The design integrated wind turbines and solar panels for energy. Towers include a central activity area as well as residential and hotel units. The ground floor includes gateways to have continuous interaction and transition. A mapped activity zone takes into consideration the historical context and diverse demographics of the area and includes four regions: coastal, desert, mountain, and valley. Each area offers unique attractions, from summer mountain tourism to business and agricultural centers, promoting tourism while meeting diverse user needs. The project seamlessly integrates housing, activity centers, and community engagement.
