In the post-fossil fuel era, pedal-powered lifestyle thrives again. The gas station is reimagined as a vibrant community hub which merges history with sustainability, fostering social connection and boiphilia. This transformation centers around a velodrome, vertical garden and heritage playground and winding BMX and skateboard tracks.
Velodrome & Community Hub: The former gas station roof is replaced with a velodrome, encouraging cycling culture. At its center, a communal stairway weaves through planter boxes and an integrated café, creating spaces to gather and observe. Below, the pump islands become a digital news and event board, maintaining its role as a social anchor.
Heritage Playground: The underground fuel tanks are excavated and transformed into a children’s play area, allowing visitors to see and interact with relics of the fossil fuel era. Opened at the ends and connected with tunnels, the tanks create a fun and educational maze for kids to explore.Vertical Garden: A lightweight structure above the existing retail space supports a vertical garden with a spiraling ramp around central planter boxes. Cantilevered terraces offer views of the site and velodrome, while solar panels on top generate clean energy.
