We have pursued a clear and ambitious goal: to breathe new life into abandoned gas stations while preserving their structure, original elements, and, above all, their primary function. Gas stations, found worldwide, were created to distribute vital resources. We aim to do the same! Today, they supply fuel for vehicles, contributing to pollution and harm. Through our design intervention, they can be transformed into Local Refillery Stores—spaces where people can access essential goods, fostering local cooperation and a more sustainable future.
We won’t alter the architecture to preserve the morphology of these iconic places. Instead, we repurpose them intelligently and consciously, maintaining their identity and purpose. Fuel pumps become dispensers of local products: water, bulk food, and essential goods sourced from nearby areas via drone delivery. The result? New interconnected urban hubs worldwide, a streamlined supply chain free from unnecessary packaging, and a drastically reduced environmental impact.
These unused spaces will become contemporary urban markets—covered public squares where communities can access necessities, meet, and exchange ideas, reinforcing human connections. Scalable and adaptable to any location, this initiative simplifies distribution while creating a sustainable, immediate, and responsible way forward.
