Pocket Forest is a novel reimagining of gas stations repurposed into a hub for conservation of natural ecosystems and for demonstrating the potential of green energy. In a twist of irony, gas stations which were once a vessel of the oil industry known for devastating nature instead become a microcosm for ensuring continued survival of nature’s wonders.
In a cynical future where extreme population density and unregulated development booms have resulted in overuse of resources and land area, the likes of vegetation will inadvertently be neglected to make way for concrete jungles. Pollution indexes soar rapidly, resulting in a global call for green energy sources. Oil fading out as a means of fuel for energy coupled with the threat of failing natural ecosystems are the main factors contributing to the inception of Pocket Forest.
Vivariums housing biological specimens are regulated by energy from the sun and water from the rain. The flat roof is covered by photovoltaic panels to maximize solar energy gain whereas the oil pumping system is modified for rainwater harvesting, storing water and supplying them to vegetation as needed.
