As the UAE’s development and growth have long been fuelled by fossil fuels, the inevitable decline of these resources poses a critical question: what comes next? The answer lies in the very essence of the desert itself – shifting sand dunes. The UAE, renowned for its vast and dynamic desert landscapes, can harness the movement of sand to power its future. This innovative vehicle charging station captures the kinetic energy of sand particles as they are carried by the winds. Using mechanical systems with levers, gears and piezoelectric plates, the station converts the weight and motion of shifting sand into useable energy. Abandoned oil derricks, once symbols of the fossil fuel era, are repurposed into structures that house underground tubes to transfer this energy to the surface. These derricks stand as both a functional element and a poignant reminder of the transition from a fossil fuel-dependent past to a sustainable, sand powered future. 

To enrich the experience, the station features multiple towers housing traditional souks, where customers can immerse themselves in Emirati culture. The souks not only celebrate the UAE’s rich traditions but also provide a welcoming environment for travellers to connect with the nation’s past while embracing its sustainable future.
