A precious liquid travels through the ruins of an underground network—a hydric system of drainages, wells, fountains, and old sanctuaries that collect and circulate water into Rome’s core: the Colosseum. Water that has traveled from mountains, rivers, and aqueducts arrives in this new urban impluvium, a green labyrinth where one can get lost. In this place, water is an absolute essential. It powers the watermills that drive agri-tech incubators, producing food to trade in the common market, while hydrating algae in the greenhouses and cleaning wastewater in the phytopurification wetland. Scaffolds are attached to the old walls, transforming into structures where nature can grow, slowly completing the missing parts of the ruin. The Colosseum shifts its historic dominance from human power to nature. A fluctuating living organism that can now be touched, smelled, felt, and walked. In this experimental field, water is the catalyst for the revival of Rome’s hydric and botanic heritage.
