The Nakagin Capsule Tower once stood as a testament to innovative architecture, its unique modular design capturing the essence of a dynamic city. Each capsule was a small yet futuristic living space, a harbinger of urban evolution. As the tower’s demolition clouds the past, a new vision emerges: a rebirth of Nakagin’s spirit.
Stored away, some of the surviving capsules currently await their second act. The warehouse where these capsules are stored, now a nexus of nostalgia and progress, transforms into a capsule haven. A place where visitors can step into the past, purchase an existing capsule and customize it for their own use. Here, the capsules once discarded now find purpose, a canvas for personalization and transformation.
The Nakagin Capsule Factory celebrates architecture’s metabolism, mirroring a living organism’s ability to adapt and renew. Visitors become architects of their own stories, embracing the ethos of change. Capsules, like urban cells, metamorphose to serve modern needs. As time flows, these capsules breathe new life, mirroring the city’s pulse.

The proposal embraces each capsule as a new canvas for many new possibilities, open to uncertainty and transformation without a “one and only” possible option.

The concept of rebirth is simply brilliant. The transformation from being something useless to a canvas ready to meet the requirements and desires of each individual is truly fascinating. Congratulations on such a brilliant representation.
