The historic Haggerston Baths is transformed into an adaptive hub for community wellness & vital social dialogue.
Our core ethos is fluid, inspired by the Regent’s Canal, which traditionally sustained Haggerston. This dynamic geometry defines the meandering pathways and a public park with a wading pool filling the former pool hall. The design mimics the canal, weaving the institutionโs civic legacy
and uniting the urban fabric.
Architecturally, we celebrate the landmark’s robust form while making it resilient and adaptable. The structure is renewed using low-impact, local materials, reflecting its Edwardian heritage with natural finishes like limewash plaster & brick. Implementing a conditioned, balanced microclimate strategy for our sustainable and biophilic commitment, we ensure the interior offers a constant, welcoming outdoor experience, a crucial respite from inclement London weather.
The program is fundamentally inclusive, designed for the neighborhood’s diverse, evolving demographic, embodying public care and relaxation. It features: Essential facilities (food pantry, library, showers) alongside Communal Exchange spaces (cafรฉ, park). Dedicated Well-Being zones (gym/sauna, sound baths, quiet rooms) offer restorative functions, complemented by Multi-Functional event and workshop areas for flexible creative engagement. Finally, a gallery preserves the site’s cultural significance, solidifying the buildingโs mission as a safe & warm public collective.

This project offers a pathway moving through the building and a new entrance, however, it does not really connect to the surroundigs and the concept – even though well formulated plans are presented – is not so strong.
