Purism, as an art and design movement, sought to create a simplified aesthetic characterized by clarity, functionality, and the elimination of unnecessary ornamentation. It showcases the principles of modernism and the connection between Purism as an art movement and the architectural ideals of Villa Savoye.
While the Villa Savoye is primarily associated with Le Corbusier’s architectural philosophy of the International Style and his five points of architecture: pilotics, free facade, free ground plan, horizontal window, and roof garden. Both Purism and the Villa Savoye reflect a modernist sensibility, emphasizing clean lines, geometric forms, and a focus on the essentials of design.
The drawing represents the concept of Villa Savoye and Le Corbusier’s architectural philosophy. Purism is the medium to expose the order of the architecture. The architecture is separated as components as shown in the table, implying the five points of architecture. The drawing perspective allows to showcase the ‘pure’ of the components, but also the beauty and order of Villa Savoye.
