Traditional gas stations contribute to urban pollution, particularly through underground fuel tanks that can contaminate soil and groundwater. Additionally, their structural elements often remain disconnected from the urban landscape. In this project, based on the concept of “eco-revival hub,” we will repurpose key gas station structures into ecological components, transforming them into bee and fungal habitats.
The underground fuel tanks, typically abandoned or costly to remove, are repurposed into controlled environments for mushroom and fungal growth. Equipped with ventilation and humidity systems, these habitats help purify soil and absorb fine particulate matter, improving air quality while increasing urban biodiversity.
To the station’s rectangular columns, two triangular prism-shaped structrues are added and form hexagonal beehive structures, offering a habitat for bees. These eco-friendly hives regulate internal temperature and humidity, encouraging natural settlement. Bees support pollination and revitalize surrounding green spaces.
The roof, originally sheltering visitors, becomes a green canopy with hexagonal plant pots. Wind, bees, and other organisms spread seeds, expanding greenery into the city. Wildflowers and nectar-producing plants further support biodiversity.
These foster an ecological cycle, enriching urban ecosystems while serving as an interactive space that educates citizens on sustainable design and the coexistence of nature within cities.
