Korea has preserved a diverse way of life, especially in agriculture. One major innovation is the use of plastic in ‘vinyl house’ farming. This has diversified crops, but it is also harmful to the environment. Can’t vinyl be used only in positive ways? To address this, we propose the ‘Green (vinyl house)’ module, a sustainable agricultural structure. The module is a 1x1m tetrahedron with plastic joints made from recycled vinyl. A soil plate for growing plants is installed on the bottom, and the other surfaces are wrapped in plastic. By recycling discarded vinyl into the joints, this method reduces waste and transforms harmful materials into useful structural components.
Seoul is full of buildings, but there are many areas that are unused due to lack of development compared to excessive development. This module can be applied to underdeveloped urban areas and small unused spaces such as underpasses. These areas, especially Seongsu-dong, have experienced uneven development and parts of the city have been underutilized. However, it is an area that specializes in pop-ups that rent out temporary sales spaces. Let’s combine this modern trend in Seoul with traditional farming methods. This module can be used as a pop-up under an overpass to grow food or provide temporary structures for other purposes. Over time, as the number of modules increases, they can act as the support structure for overpasses, replacing large columns and helping to revitalize neglected urban spaces. This concept addresses urban development challenges while also promoting environmental sustainability. This will show how people will live in the future by showing self-sufficient life in the city.
