The Colosseum has been a central hub for public activities and daily life since its construction. Despite enduring numerous disasters and multiple renovations, it still stands proudly in Rome. A key to its survival has been its ability to adapt throughout history, serving as theaters, homes, workshops, and fortresses, thereby maintaining its connection to people’s lives and the city’s development.

This renewal project seeks to revive this historical connection by employing modular systems and participatory design. The goal is to transform the Colosseum from a mere architectural landmark and tourist spot into a vibrant venue for diverse public events, seamlessly integrating it into modern urban life. The modules are designed to align with the Colosseum’s facade and structural system, preserving its historical and architectural essence. These multifunctional modules will be incorporated under a multi-stakeholder consultation framework, balancing the needs of citizens, visitors, and both public and private sectors. This approach ensures that the Colosseum can continuously adapt to the evolving socio-economic and urban landscape, making it a dynamic part of Rome’s future.
