Architecture has the power to reveal what’s hidden. The UIA – HYP ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS CUP 2025 invites students worldwide to reimagine forgotten or overlooked spaces — the nooks and crannies — as sites of transformation.
This competition is more than a design challenge; it’s an invitation to engage deeply with the spaces that surround us — to observe, interpret, and act with freedom and creativity.
Open to students only, this competition is an opportunity to share old projects or create new ones.
BRIEF IN SHORT →
The topic is broad and so are the possibilities.
This competition asks students to uncover, reclaim, and transform the “nooks and crannies” of our environments – tiny leftover spaces, neglected corners, and undefined gaps in the urban fabric.
Look for spaces hiding in plain sight. Challenge conventions. Map relationships. Solve for reality, not utopia.
This is not an abstract exercise. It’s a call for grounded, design-oriented solutions that embrace everyday life, social dynamics, and poetic possibility.Participants are free to pick a site of your choice or re-use an old project. It’s your chance to get creative!

Teams are divided into two categories:
- Domestic Group: Chinese mainland universities (via official UIA-HYP Cup Website)
- International Group: Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and all other international universities (on non-a.com)

Registration & Upload Instructions
All international teams must pay the registration fee using the link below. Once payment is confirmed, you will receive a submission code (referred to as the “order number”) — a four-digit code such as #1234 or #9485.
Teams with students based in mainland China should register directly through the official HYP CUP website.
Please note that all teams (both international and domestic) must submit their final ZIP file by attaching it to an email sent to uedmedia@163.com. The email subject line should be: “Entry Title + Submission Number”.
If the ZIP is too large to attached, please upload to online file sharing website such as “WeTransfer” or “Google drive” and provide download link in the submission email. Entries will be printed and laid out by the committee.
