StudentBadami Museum and cultural center
The project aims to deconstruct the idea of a museum as a place to view history completely dissociated from it.
The museum is redefined as a center for the people to draw their strength from; a temple that connects a people their land and history.
This is symbolized with the absence of an artificial floor on which the building sits on, one walks on the cliffs as one with the land, and as a part of the history of Badami.
The building is a center for the people of Badami with the first organized markets and crafts center in the place providing new opportunities for an improved livelihood.
These markets and crafts centers mark the initial steps towards dissolving the slums and improving the living conditions of the people of Badami.
The architecture of the building mirrors the rugged contours of the rocky cliffs, while the design of some entries draw inspiration from the ancient Badami cave temples nearby. This design wishes to impart an experience similar to traversing valleys and exploring caves while moving through its spaces.
