Again we find ourselves on the path of self destruction, failing to accept the death of grand collective ideas. The concept of universal utopia must disappear from our consciousness.
In adherence with Bruno Taut and his ideological and architectural formations published in his 1920 book “Alpine Architektur”, I offer to fragment similar ideas into specific and precise architectural formations – Alpine Architecture of the Himalayas.
In order to justify this tremendously sisyphean effort of construction on this harsh and pristine terrain, I wato expand the concept of the Thermal Bath and unearth its wider potential in this context. My goal was to establish a symbiotic system of human-nature-structure relationship where site specific conditions, site specific materials and site specific techniques come into one grand achievement.
The bath structure presented is a conglomeration of different volumes with different offerings – the thermal bath being one of them. I have intentionally placed the structure on the steep incline between Gosaikunda Lake and Bhairav Kunda Lake allowing the operation of a gravity powered water wheel which functions as the main construction apparatus for the entire structure – converting local stone, wood and mud from the bottom of the lakes into a feasible local utopia.
Jury Comments
“We were surprised by the richness of expression as well as the design and planning skills. This architecture has a special character and quality, but since the subject of the design is Thermal Bath, we wanted them to let us imagine the interior space.” -ATELIER MOZH
“beautiful representation of the proposal”
