Architecture, as a manifestation of human creativity and practicality, is intertwined with power. Whether it’s the power to shape environment, influence behavior, or assert dominance, architecture reflects these dynamics.
In a speculative dystopian future, where power imbalances are magnified, project envisions a building—live-and-work ministry. Individual freedom is sacrificed in pursuit of climbing the ladder of power. Social interaction is stifled, replaced by desire to ascend, all under the watchful eye of ‘Big Brother’.
The object (working in the lower levels and living in the upper levels) is designed in a way that the higher you climb the structure, the more working and living square meters and light you get. The circular base morphs into a pyramidal/conical form, symbolizing power. Spatial benefits decrease as you descend, emphasizing the disparity. At the center stands an observation the authority tower. At the pinnacle, an oculus filters light throughout the interior—a stark reminder of the cost of ambition. The concrete exterior-skin is totally closed.
In this architectural narrative, we grapple: How do people relate in community? How does power shape wellness? Our creation serves as a cautionary tale, to consider the consequences of unchecked authority and the delicate balance between light and shadow.
