Even the busiest street in the heart of Bangkok needs an oasis of tranquillity. Flora-Nibbāna aspires to offer a space where people engage together and help to build a mindful society for everyone trying to escape the stressful lifestyle in the urban city. The project is specially planned to be located on top of the flower market, which is the centre of Thai cultural fabric. Flowers served as inspiration for the project since they are profoundly rooted in Thai culture and Buddhist ceremonies. The flower is also a symbol of purity and serenity. The location not only connects people inside and outside of the site, but it also connects everyone to their inner peace.
The rooftop space is aimed at solving the site’s problem of floral and food waste by educating people on how to transform trash into colourful bio-plastic roof panels of the pavilions. Three types of pavilions are created for various activities, including meditation, yoga, sound healing, etc. while being open to encouraging visitors and locals to participate in and begin their recovery journey. The previously underutilised shophouse rooftop will blossom into a meditation collective connecting the shophouse community to the public.
