The UFO is a pressurized commuter self-sufficient dome habitat that stands and moves on nine tentacles that change their height according to the harsh terrain.
The inner living environment is designed as a micro ecosystem that runs under monitored equilibrium, with a bio-regenerative life support system to generate oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide using natural elements like edible plants that will provide food too…etc.
We will start this time right: The UFO habitat has the minimum footprint on the lunar surface by elevating it on nine tentacles.
The circular geometry of the UFO habitat is circular to enable the occupants to monitor the full 360 degrees perimeter surrounding the habitat
As NASA defined a surface habitat class known as the commuter habitat, The UFO habitat is a movable commuter habitat in continuous pursuit of resources (Frozen water, better solar exposure,….etc.)
The dome is a multilayer skin stuffed with aerogel (an extremely light material with high effective thermal insulation against high thermal fluctuations and polyurethane insulation against gamma radiation.
The main power system is based upon a cold fusion reactor located in the centre of the dome under the artificial water lake. A technology will be available by 2050.
Jury Comments
– The project presents an innovative, alien-like design with detailed storytelling and a unique use of tentacles for mobility. The concept of a bio-regenerative life support system is particularly compelling. However, a more detailed structural and construction plan would strengthen the proposal. | Hanjun Kim
