In the Anthropocene era, consumerism shapes our identities through excessive consumption, leading to unprecedented waste generation. Beyond the capitalist façade lies this entropic ideology, and the challenge of post-consumerism intensifies our waste woes.
Our vision seeks to transform Mumbai’s BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) market into a hub for waste collection and recycling, redefining the traditional market concept. We propose engaging consumers in waste sorting, offering carbon credits in return for their efforts. Collaborations with local scrap dealers and municipal trucks bolster our waste sourcing.
Within the market, waste workshops creatively recycle accumulated waste, fostering government employment opportunities. The market’s own waste is repurposed into compost, creating a self-sustaining economic cycle.
Our modular megastructure design ensures scalability, adaptable to Mumbai’s dense urban landscape. Elevated pathways create a community space, combining permanent mall-like shops with transitional double-height zones reminiscent of vibrant street markets.
In this post-consumer world, our concept bridges the gap between products and their manufacturing processes, promoting cultural exchange akin to the Greek Agora while addressing the critical issue of waste management in a sustainable and scalable manner.
