 The essence of an era, Zeitgeist, undeniably permeates various fields, yet architecture often lags in reflecting contemporary movements due to constraints like budget and safety, alongside the influence of the period’s prevailing conditions. For instance, while Surrealism dominated the art scene when Villa Savoye was constructed, architecture was veering towards Modernism, a seemingly contradictory direction influenced by factors including World Wars. The influence of the surrealism came somewhat late, represented by many avant-garde architects after 1960s.

Imagining Villa Savoye reinterpreted through a Surrealist lens, particularly its location within a forest, offers a unique perspective. This setting inherently possesses a defamiliarization aspect, making it an ideal candidate for such a transformation. By inverting the arrangement of the forest and the building and infusing the woodland with exotic, Eastern characteristics—contrasting sharply with the era’s context—this reinterpretation not only maximizes contrast but also alienates Villa Savoye from the mundane, reimagining it as a surreal escape. This conceptualization aims to explore the potential of immediate artistic influence on architecture, challenging conventional boundaries and embracing the unusual.
