Because I am more concerned about the increasing suicide rate in this social phenomenon, especially in developed urban areas like Tokyo, Japan or any other fast-paced cities. My design is to help those struggling in heavy work and extremely limited space find a place to meditate, which can help them temporarily overcome the dilemma of uneven spatial distribution and to some extent reduce their suicidal tendencies and desires. Therefore, my main structure is to build a building on the roof that resembles a watchtower, while combining slides and corridors. This experience encourages participants to constantly climb to the top, look around, and provide an opportunity to overlook the city, allowing suicidal or interested participants to view the city’s beauty in a suicidal state or driven by curiosity, thereby affecting their thoughts and emotions, and their judgment of life and death. Afterwards, participants can slide down the railing to simulate the feeling before jumping off a building, and also recall their childhood scenes of playing on the slide. To achieve the goal of strengthen their experience and psychological healing.
Jury Comments
- An original angle to the competition brief that seeks for an architectural solution to a very relevant social problem. -Olav Bruin
- The project is surprisingly linking meditation to the problems of modern civilisation. Not just pleasure.
