Vélo City, an innovative architectural project, endeavors to underscore the imperative need for a transportation revolution while inspiring individuals to embrace the cycling lifestyle. At its core, the project utilizes a modular system comprised of repurposed shipping containers, offering versatility and sustainability. The result is a small, modular city that can be expanded and installed virtually anywhere.
Consisting of three key modules, Vélo City addresses various aspects of urban living. The first module is a minimalist residential unit designed for individual occupants, emphasizing simplicity and functionality. The second module encompasses a spacious communal area, serving as a hub for social interaction, housing a cafe, bar, and art gallery—a place for community gatherings. The third module combines a bicycle workshop and secure storage facility, streamlining bike maintenance and storage.
Collectively, these modules create an environment that renders the automobile obsolete, shifting the focus back to human connectivity. Vélo City not only promotes sustainable transportation through cycling but also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility. By repurposing shipping containers and embracing a modular approach, the project pioneers a new era of urban design, urging individuals to reconsider their modes of transport and embrace a more sustainable, human-centric lifestyle.

The proposal is very successful. The idea of reusing the shipping containers, in a modular sustainable way, to create a Velo City, gives to this project an endless potential. The design reflects its purpose and could be apply in any empty space of a city. Well done.
